NaNoWriMo.

Now that we're laden with our salary and, more importantly, a brand new mp3 player, we take this oppurtunity to announce our support for, and participation in, the (Inter)National Novel Writing Month. Over the next one month, we intend to write (at least) 50,000 words of a novel that's been brewing inside my head for over two years now. The current working title is "The Keeper of Time - The Secret History of Falejbagh's Dawakhana", but we'll probably modify it as we go along.

The narrative will essentially be non-linear, 'coz that's how my brain works, so expect to see at least one posting a day on this. Will be working on the details and modalities (might have another blog for instance, or a site perhaps) for the rest of the day today, but yup, we're definitely looking at 50,000 words by Nov 30th.

So to all who read this:- Your support, feedback and encouragement is crucial for, well, me, but hey, you'll get some good literature out in the end. Think about it.

I entered the NaNoWriMo contest last year, buoyed by hopes of banging out my 1920s spy novel set in Saigon and starring a young, sassy, anti-colonial she-agent. My efforts dwindled after 15,000 words, due to pressure to finish a Master's thesis. I knew it was a lost cause when I had my character write her crush's name some 60 times in her journal, boosting my word count accordingly. I will bow out this year out of concern that writing on the job and working on the novel will induce carpal tunnel syndrome. Good luck in carrying the torch!

Now, why does that title remind me so much of Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently novel?

Before the MM tells you, BECAUSE I'VE NEVER READ ANYTHING ELSE!

Alamd****, the title reminds you of Drik Gently coz of a certain Professor Chronotius, the Professor Emiretus of Chronology at Jesus College, Oxbridge. Won't blame you for that connection, and frankly, been bearing on my mind ever since I came up with the title, but just to clarify: no connection whatsoever.

Khanh, while I promise I wont let Bill Falzburg write *anything* in his journal, I already have problems out here:- mah (home) comp needs a re-format, thus depriving us of a precious day's work. That said, the focus is more on getting the story out than on word counts (although I'll try to meet them), so... let's see how it goes.

PS:- Alam*****, I realise you've retracted your statement, but just to point out:- posting now works for the other two entries as well. Some stupid bug with the Blogger app; re-posted both entries to resolve it.
