Following Olympics- Singaporean Edition.
Must admit I've had mixed feelings about Singapore's great medal hope, not because of her obviously China descent (I leave it to Singaporeans to worry about roots, descents and all that), but for a more nasty reason:- if Jiawei wins a medal, that would equate (billion strong, democratic, chaotic) India with (4.3 million strong, quasi-democratic, orderly) Singapore. Now, that, as all ex-pats will agree, is a definite no-no.
That said, she did show some grit and determination in yesterday's match, and I, for one, did find myself cheering for her during most of the match. Definitely a surreal experience watching her play live on multiple LCD screens along with many cynical Singaporeans in Sim Lim Square.
Oh well, might as well bring home a bronze, Jiawei, and get on with it.
