Making Justice More Fun.

Here's an idea: since we (in India) have a surfeit of news channels, why not broadcast some select judicial hearings LIVE on national television? While it would definitely tamasha-ize the process, it would also bring in an element of seriousness, timeliness and, let's hope, clarity, to the justice. Justice must be seen to be done and all that, you get what I mean?

Following Olympics- Singaporean Edition.

Must admit I've had mixed feelings about Singapore's great medal hope, not because of her obviously China descent (I leave it to Singaporeans to worry about roots, descents and all that), but for a more nasty reason:- if Jiawei wins a medal, that would equate (billion strong, democratic, chaotic) India with (4.3 million strong, quasi-democratic, orderly) Singapore. Now, that, as all ex-pats will agree, is a definite no-no.

That said, she did show some grit and determination in yesterday's match, and I, for one, did find myself cheering for her during most of the match. Definitely a surreal experience watching her play live on multiple LCD screens along with many cynical Singaporeans in Sim Lim Square.

Oh well, might as well bring home a bronze, Jiawei, and get on with it.

The Futility of Following Olympics.

I think India has maxed it for now.

There are those who look at, say, China's tally, and become emotional/jealous/depressed. I, however, am not one of them.

Update [22.8.2004 10:51AM SGT]: Shekhar Gupta has an interesting perspective on Medal Drubble, but as usual, looks macro and not micro. And oh, I disagree that we should use the Army as a means of last resort; it is a force that's being paid and nurtured for one reason only, and that's to protect the nation's borders. Let's keep it as that.

Blog of No Return.

This has to be the world's most secretive blog, beyond the reach of even Google, it seems. And the dude who maintains it has steadfastly refused to respond to emails, citing connectivity problems.

Oh what the heck; I'll call him up tomorrow to ask for the URL.

Day 0 at the new job.

Yup, technically it's day 0 coding facility management software, mostly coz I still haven't signed the employment contract. Frankly, was bored at home for the last six days, so decided to precipitate things; went and told the MD that I'd like to start work today. I think I caught everyone off-guard; they probably expected me to join next week or something. In any case, Alex, the boss dude, has already said it's the honeymoon period for another 10 days, so we're looking at some quality chill time here.

I, however, am too depressed about Manipur to talk about it. Waqt guzra par badal ta nahin (meaning) and all that. Gets frustrating after a while.

Back in action.

Back to Singapore and back to work, so a lot has happened in the inter-regunum. Indeed, there's a lot of stuff that needed to be said here that hasn't, and it's a state of affairs that needs to be rectified.

So, in a true post-modernist, stream-of-consciousness way, time to revisit the past few weeks with a first detailed look on why Sri Lankan women are, in fact, the under reported story of the sub-continent, after which, we deliberate on the culinary paradise that is the Dum Biryani, before finally understanding why travellers can, sometimes, turn into Ugly NRI's.

Lots of stuff happening, and lots to come, only on the Big F Word.
